Many of you already know this dua for confidence by Musa (a.s). But have you ever wondered what makes it the most special dua for people with low-self esteem and self-confidence?

Because Allah taught this dua to Musa (a.s) after acknowledging his (a.s)’s feelings of nervousness and lack of confidence. Understand it this way;

Musa (a.s) was given a heavy duty, and it was to warn the Pharaoh of his corruption and persuade him to believe in one God (Allah).

But Musa (a.s), being a Prophet of Allah, was also worried and nervous to speak at the court of Pharaoh. Moses (a.s) heard Allah and was given divine signs, still he admitted his human weakness – lack of confidence and low self-esteem. He doubted his abilities.

(Moses said to his Lord) “My breast is constricted, and my tongue is not fluent.”

The most special thing about this dua is Allah’s way of understanding Musa (a.s)’s fear of public speaking. By mentioning this incident in the Quran, Allah generalized it for all of us. It is Allah’s beautiful way of saying that It’s possible to get anxiety and have stage fear. Allah knows and understands you.

At the same time, Allah is giving you this beautiful dua of Musa (a.s) to say when you face low self-confidence in any sphere of your life. Whether it’s for school, college, university or workplace presentations or speaking to a friend about his wrongdoing.

Allah is also telling you in the last that He’s got you back. He’s giving you everything you need to speak with clarity. That He is with you right in the moment; when you gather the courage, revise stuff in your head and start speaking it in front of people.

Understanding the Dua of Musa (a.s):

This dua for confidence has four parts.

1: Open My Heart

The first thing that happens to you when you are under-confident is that your heart becomes constricted. It feels like your heart is not in control. It becomes full of nervousness that you can’t even focus on what you’re about to say. So, Rabish Rahli Sadri means: “Oh Allah open my heart for me”, which means calm down my heart and gives me relief so that I can be focused at the moment.

2. Ease My Task

After your heart is relaxed, the next challenge for people with low self-confidence is to perform the task. Often times with pressure and under-confidence tasks that are already difficult become harder. So, Wa Yassirli Amri means: “and make my task easy for me”, which means put ease in my task, and it gradually happens without a barrier or trouble.

3. Untie The Knot of My Tongue

Sometimes before the speech, your heart is in relief, and speech becomes easy, but things get too messed up in your head. You get confused by the complicated stuff in your head and don’t know how to explain your topic to people. So here comes the third part, Wah Lul Uqdatan Min Lisaani: “Untie the knot in my tongue”, which means make complicated things easy for me, and make me articulate things rightly.

4. So They Understand

Your purpose of speech is to make people understand you. So, Yaf Kahu Kauli: “So they understand me.”, which means I communicate in a way that people truly understand my speech. It inspires them. And it becomes impactful.
