Laylatul Qadr is the night of great power. Not only it, but this night is also known as the night of decree and great value. Allah calls it as Laylatul Qadr and Laylatul Mubaraka in the Holy Quran. If you want to find this night, you can look for it in the last 10 days of Ramadan. Here’s a dua for laylatul qadr that you should recite if you find this night.
Laylatul Qadr Dua:
It was narrated by Aisha (a.s) that she asked Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about a dua to recite on the night of power / laylatul qadr. So, He suggested the following dua;
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Roman/ Transliteration: allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa fu annee
Meaning: “Oh Allah You are The One Who forgives greatly, and loves to forgive, so forgive me.”

How Many Times Should I Say This Dua?
There’s no limit to reciting this dua. Supplicate as much as possible. There are two practical ways in which you can recite this dua;
- You can do a constant dhikr of this dua all night while doing your house chores or other important work., study, job related stuff etc.
- You can sit in solitude on your prayer mat or in a clean and comfy place to do a constant dhikr of this dua along with other duas all night. This option applies to you when you’re free from your work and nawafil.
There is no specific moment of the night in which your duas are accepted, instead the whole night itself is mercy. Jibreel (a.s) and all the angels of the universe come down on earth with Allah’s mercy on this night. The intention behind this dua is to plead for Allah’s forgiveness with love and hope. Besides, you can ask anything in your own language.

The best thing you can do on laylatul qadr is to perform qayyam at night. So, pray lots of nawafil in the night till the fajr prayer. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to offer 8 nawafil in qayyam. But, the beauty of those eight nawafil cannot be comprehended. He used to recite so much of the Quran in it. You can recite any number of surahs you know in your qayyam in the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

The scholars (like Nouman ali khan) say that it’s Allah’s way of saying that He listens and accepts all the duas of His servant on this night.
3. Observe Itikaf
If you have time and energy then you must prepare to observe itikaf in the last 10 nights of Ramadan. This way you’ll surely find laylatul qadr and spend utmost time in the worship of Allah. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to observe i’tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan every year!
Aisha (a.s) said that Prophet Muahmmad (peace be upon him) used to practice itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan til he died, and then his wives used to practice ikiqaf after him.
